Tutorial Program FAQs

Do you offer drop-in tutoring?

For the Fall 2021 semester, we are not offering drop-in tutoring, except for select Computer Science courses. You must schedule an appointment through the LARC-WC Online tile in your Student Portal for all other courses. Times and any Zoom links for Computer science courses with drop-in drop-in tutoring labs are available on the third tab of our  Fall 2021 Course Support List.

How do I schedule a tutoring appointment?

To schedule an appointment with the Tutorial Program or the Writing Center, you’ll need to register for a free account with our online scheduling system. To access this service, simply click on the LARC-WC Online tile in your Student Portal. For detailed instructions on how to set up your account and schedule your first appointment, please note that we have program-specific instructions for accessing and using WC Online on our Tutorial Program page.

How many subject-specific tutoring appointments can I schedule per week in WC Online?

You can schedule three 1-hour appointments per week.

How do I cancel my WC Online tutoring appointment?

To cancel your appointment, login to your account through your Student Portal by clicking on the LARC-WC Online tile. Select your appointment, then click on "Cancel Appointment" on the pop-up window. You will be asked to confirm the cancellation. Please note that appointments need to be cancelled a minimum of 24 hours in advance whenever possible. If you need to cancel an appointment last minute, please contact our help desk at larcdeskw@sonoma.edu, or call 707-664-4401 during our business hours: Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

What if I can’t find an appointment time that works for me?

As a student support service, we try to offer flexibility in scheduling appointments. If there are no appointments that work with your schedule, please email our help desk at larcdeskw@sonoma.edu, and we will see how we can help.

How do I know if there is subject-specific tutoring for my course?

There are two places you can check to see if there’s subject-specific tutoring for your course: 1.) On the homepage of the LARC Website, we have a spreadsheet linked that lists all of the courses we support with subject-specific tutoring, embedded lab tutoring, and/or Supplemental Instruction (Note: this will be available during Fall and Spring semesters only). 2.) You can also view all of the courses we currently offer in the drop-down menu of our online scheduling system, accessed through your Student Portal.

I don’t see a tutor available for my course. Are there other support options available?

There are a couple of options if your course is not listed in our schedule. 1.) You can email our help desk at larcdeskw@sonoma.edu to see if we have a tutor that can help with that subject, as sometimes they may be able to cover different levels of a course. 2.) As a second option, you can fill out our Subject Request Form. Tutors are hired based on subject demand. Once 3 subject request forms are submitted for the same subject, we will look into hiring a tutor. So encourage your friends and classmates to fill this form out as well! The Tutorial Program Coordinator will assist in finding a tutor for this subject, but this does not guarantee a tutor will be hired. For some subjects, we may refer you to another student support service on campus, such as MESA Tutoring (Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement).

How do I access my appointment?

To access your appointment, login to our scheduling system through the LARC-WC Online tile in your Student Portal and click on your appointment, which will show up on your screen in yellow. In the window that opens up, you will see a Zoom link at the top of the tutor profile. Simply click on the Zoom link, and your appointment will start! Please note: do not attempt to go into your appointment early, as other students may be finishing up their appointments. For more information on accessing appointments, please check our our Zoom Student Guide to Online LARC Services.
