How Computer Science Drop-In/Tutoring Works
Computer Science tutoring is a little different than other tutorial subjects. We have embedded tutors in three core courses (CS 115, 215 & 315). These tutors offer drop-in hours, but the hours are only available to students in that specific course. Historically, that is where CS faculty have wanted the support focused, so that is how we structure it. As a result, you may get questions about support for those classes or other CS classes. Here is how you can guide students who come in asking about CS support:
- If a student comes in asking for support for one of the three core classes (CS 115, 215, or 315), you can help them find their tutor's drop-in hours by checking the Course Support Finder Tool or looking at the WC Online schedule. If they are in the course, they should have that information in their Canvas as well, including zoom links if the hours are over zoom.
- For students who need help with a different CS course, you should refer the student to the Tutorial Program Coordinator. The Coordinator will check with the tutors to see if they are comfortable with a student coming during their drop-in hours to get help with that course and reach out to the student if they can attend drop-in hours. We also recommend redirecting students to their faculty office hours.
