Tutorial Program FAQs

Yes! We offer drop-in math, computer science, geology, and more! For all the details, including times, tutors, courses, and locations, check out our Drop-In Tutoring page! You can also read through our Drop-In FAQs to get more information about how drop-in services work.

To schedule an appointment with the Tutorial Program or the Writing Center, you’ll need to register for a free account with our online scheduling system. To access this service, simply click on the LARC-WC Online tile in your Student Portal. For detailed instructions on how to set up your account and schedule your first appointment, please note that we have full instructions for accessing and using WC Online: LARC Appointment Guide.

You can schedule two 1-hour appointments per week per course with our Subject-Specific tutors (example: 2 math appointments, 2 biology appointments, 2 chemistry appointments). You may also make up to two additional appointments in our Writing Center each week. And you can use our Drop-In tutoring services as often as you like!

To cancel your appointment, login to your account through your Student Portal by clicking on the LARC-WC Online tile. Select your appointment, then click on "Cancel Appointment" on the pop-up window. You will be asked to confirm the cancellation. Please note that appointments need to be cancelled a minimum of 2 hours in advance whenever possible. If you need to cancel an appointment last minute, please contact our help desk at larcdeskw@sonoma.edu, or call 707-664-4401 during our business hours: Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, and Friday, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.

As a student support service, we try to offer flexibility in scheduling appointments. If there are no appointments that work with your schedule, please fill out our form - Can't Find an Appointment? - come by our front desk, call us at 707-664-4401, or email our help desk at larcdeskw@sonoma.edu, and we will see how we can help.

There are two places you can check to see if there’s subject-specific tutoring for your course:

1.) You can check out our Course Support List, which includes all courses we support with subject-specific tutoring, embedded lab tutoring, and/or Supplemental Instruction (Note: this will be available during Fall and Spring semesters only).

2.) You can also view all of the courses we currently offer in the drop-down menu of our online scheduling system, accessed through your Student Portal.

There are a couple of options if your course is not listed in our schedule:

1.) You can fill out our Academic Support Request form. This form gives us a better picture of the type of help you need, so that we can check in with our current staff to see if anyone can support you. We cannot not guarantee a tutor will be hired. For some subjects, we may refer you to another student support service on campus.

2.) As a second option, you can email our help desk at larcdeskw@sonoma.edu to see if we have a tutor that can help with that subject, as sometimes they may be able to cover different levels of a course.

To access an in-person appointment, first check the location, as some of our tutoring happens outside the LARC. You can find this easily on the tutor's profile in our scheduling system.

For appointments in the LARC (first floor of the University Library), simply come in about 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Check in at our front desk, and the Student Ambassador on duty will direct you to your tutor.

For appointments elsewhere on campus (example: in the Green Music Center), just head to the designated classroom a couple of minutes before the appointment starts, and then be ready to work with your tutor!

To access an online appointment over Zoom, login to our scheduling system through the LARC-WC Online tile in your Student Portal and click on your appointment, which will show up on your screen in yellow. In the window that opens up, you will see a Zoom link at the top of the tutor profile. Simply click on the Zoom link, and your appointment will start! Please note: do not attempt to go into your appointment early, as other students may be finishing up their appointments. For more information on accessing appointments, please check our our Zoom Student Guide to Online LARC Services.
